For any award show the host plays a very important role. Jennifer Lopez took the job of host to a new level with her opening of the show. The seasoned signer covered some of the year's hottest songs and left the audience captivated by her performance.
2. Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth
If no one else felt serenaded by the duet's live performance of their hit "Marvin Gaye" the pair felt the vibes as they ended the performance with a showstopping kiss.
3. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
The two debuted their new song "Kevin" and unlike most of the performances of the night, this song spoke to some of the deeper issues taking place in America today.
4. Alanis Morrissette Demi Lovato
Alanis makes her comeback to the stage of mainstream music. Many millennials might not be familiar with Alanis's original music but being accompanied by one of today's hottest singers made her performance appealing for many audiences.
5. Celine Dion
The AMAs fell only a little over a week after the terrorist attacks on Paris. The show honored those lives with a performance by Celine Dion singing a French song. The audience was undoubtedly moved by the performance, bringing many to tears.
6. Justin Bieber
Bieber is back. After a two-year hiatus Justin Bieber returns to the scene with a crowd engaging finale singing his three hits of the year. The final song seemed as a sort of apology to the public for his less than acceptable behavior in the past. This humility accompanied by his lackluster attire which is a change from Bieber's past wardrobe.
